The other day I was listening to the news. They were talking about Tiger & Elin Wood’s daughter, who they named Sam Alexis Woods. The story said that they named her “Sam” because that was the name Tiger’s dad would shout out when he was in the crowd so that Tiger would know where he was. Everyone else was yelling out “Tiger” but no one was yelling “Sam!” So, it was unique and Tiger would know where his dad was.
I was listening to this story and I thought to myself, “When is it going to stop being about Tiger’s dad? Why is it always about him? Why in the world would he name his daughter something that his Dad called him? Enough is enough! Isn’t it time for Tiger?”
But then as I was thinking about it, I realized, it’s always about his dad. If it weren’t for Tiger’s dad, there probably would be no Tiger Woods. Sure Tiger has the raw talent, but it was his father who made him who he is today. It’s always about his father.
And it’s always about our father. Our heavenly Father is so constantly, passtionately in love with us that there is nothing he would keep from us. God has given us Jesus, HIS only Son so that we could have a relationship with our Father for eternity. The joy of heaven is open to us forever, because of everything the Father has given to us. When is it OUR time? When is it going to be about ME, and not our God? Never. It is always about our Heavenly Father who loves us more than we can ever imagine. It is truly amazing that He loves us that much. Think about that this week, and what we can do to thank God for a love that will not let us go.

“Once upon a time…” There are probably no more familiar words than those words that begin a story. Story is the essence of who we are, it is the narrative of our daily life. Jesus knew the power of a story. Many of the stories He told have been told and retold for 2000 years. Several of them have found their way into our language; “He was a good Samaritan,” or “The prodigal son has returned!” This June and July, our sermon series will focus on the great stories told in the Gospel of Luke. Each story continues to speak to us and how we live our daily life with one another. The schedule for this summer’s stories will be:
June 3 The Rich Fool
June 10 The Great Banquet
June 17 The Lost Son
June 24 The Shrewd Manager
July 1 The Rich Man and Lazarus
July 8 The Persistent Widow
July 15 The Pharisee & the Tax Collector
July 22 The Ten Talents
July 29 The Good Samaritan
